Easy Guitar Lessons Number 1: How to hold a guitar.
The easiest way to start learning is to play the guitar on your leg from a sitting position. You’ll be strumming using your dominant hand so the guitar goes to the side of your dominant hand as well. Keep the guitar upright and comfortable, nice and close like gently holding on to your lover. Sometimes the guitar slides off your leg while playing because you bend your back or while you are looking at the placement of your fingers and guitar chord progressions on the frets. This is quite normal for guitar players just starting out learning how to play the guitar. However, it is important to not start any bad habits while you’re in the beginning stages of learning. So again, hold the guitar nice and straight, not too tight, but close.
Easy Guitar Lessons Number 2: Getting to know your guitar chords.
For the six guitar chords you will be learning in the very beginning, you will be concentrating on the four first frets of the guitar. If you are spankin’ new at this, frets are the spaces between the metal vertical lines on the guitar. This is where your fingers need to go in order to produce clean and clear sounds from your guitar. There are six strings on the guitar and those are represented by the six horizontal lines on the guitar chords diagram. Your fingers will be numbered 1-3 with your index finger as finger number one.
Easy Guitar Lesson Number 3: The three basic guitar chords
The first chord you be studying is the D chord. Your #1 finger (the index finger) and #2 finger will be positioned on the second fret. Finger #1 will be on the third string while finger #2 will be on the first string. Finger #3 will be positioned on the third fret on the second string. Strum along a little bit to get a sense of how this sounds making sure that nothing is making buzzing sounds or is muted. If you are getting anything other than a clean, crisp D chord, reposition your fingers so that they are either in the middle of the fret or just slightly closer to base of the neck but still before the metal fret bars. The second guitar chord to study is the E chord which is probably one of the easiest guitar chords for beginners to learn. Finger #1 is positioned on the first fret on the third string. Finger #2 and #3 will be on the second fret. Finger #2 will be positioned on the fifth string while finger#3 will be on the fourth string. The A chord is also one of the easiest guitar chords to really master. This chord can be played in more than one way but this is the basic method. All Fingers #1, #2, #3 are all positioned on the second fret. Finger #1 goes to the fourth string, finger #2 goes to the third string and Finger #3 is positioned on the second string. Strum along a little bit and get a sense for the "feeling" of this chord. Easy Guitar Lesson Number 4: Strumming and changing chords
The first three guitar chords will now enable you to play some tunes with one additional step which is the strumming the guitar strings. Strumming your guitar is the second fundamental skill to be mastered. It is done by moving your dominant hand up and down on the strings. Always keep your strumming hand moving. There is no need to rush, we are focusing not only on strumming properly, we are also paying attention to timing and rythm. Start slowly till you have strumming perfected. As you get your rythm down, then you can build up your speed gradually. The guitar chords should ring out with no buzzing and only play the strings of that chord shown on the chord chart. You are setting the beat. Now it’s time to switch between the three chords you have just learned. Once you master these, you will start to realize that these three chords are the foundation to tons of great and familiar songs. Switch your fingers to the different guitar chords as you try to maintain the flow of the beat.
